A PCB file is a PowerPoint Settings file where PowerPoint stores every customization you make within the program interface. These customizations include the appearance of new add-in menus and toolbars.

Whenever PowerPoint launches, it looks for this PCB file within a typical location:
The.dsn file was successfully imported but the.pcb file will not import with any of the tools provided in Altium. The header in the.DSN file has 'Orcad 10.3' in it, but the.pcb has no header info. A.pcb file could be a LOT of things and since the schematic header says 10.3 I assume the layout is the same? First of all, you will need to open your PCB design file in Eagle. This file will have a.brd extension. After that, following the following instructions: 1.Select “File - CAM Processor”.

If no PCB file is found, PowerPoint creates a new one! In other words, PowerPoint restores all defaults. Therefore, this creation of a new PCBfile can be put to advantage. First, we need to rename or delete the errant PCB file. Follow these steps to do so:
- Make sure PowerPoint 2016 is closed. Then navigate to the path mentioned below:
- C:Users<UserName>AppDataRoamingMicrosoftPowerPoint
- Substitute <UserName> with the user name set for your computer.
- Within this folder, you will find a PCB file, as shown in Figure 1 below. You may see more than one PCB file here,and this happens if you have multiple versions of Microsoft Office installed on your system. For PowerPoint 2016, the file you need will be namedPPT16.pcb or similar.
Figure 1: PCB file location- Now, you can either delete the PCB file or you can rename it with a .bak or another extension. We highly recommendthat you rename rather than delete the file! For this example we will rename the file with a .bak extension, as shown inFigure 2 below. You can also always delete the PCB file later once a new PCB is created, and everything seems to be working well.
Figure 2: PCB file renamed- Now, launch PowerPoint 2016. It might take a while to load since a new PCB file is being created. At this point of time, get back tothe original folder that contained the PCB file. You'll notice that a new PCB file has been created.

Possible problems with the PCB format files
The inability to open and operate the PCB file does not necessarily mean that you do not have an appropriate software installed on your computer. There may be other problems that also block our ability to operate the Printed Circuit Board Format file. Below is a list of possible problems.
- Corruption of a PCB file which is being opened
- Incorrect links to the PCB file in registry entries.
- Accidental deletion of the description of the PCB from the Windows registry
- Incomplete installation of an application that supports the PCB format
- The PCB file which is being opened is infected with an undesirable malware.
- The computer does not have enough hardware resources to cope with the opening of the PCB file.
- Drivers of equipment used by the computer to open a PCB file are out of date.

If you want to associate a file with a new program (e.g. my-file.PCB) you have two ways to do it. The first and the easiest one is to right-click on the selected PCB file. From the drop-down menu select 'Choose default program', then click 'Browse' and find the desired program. The whole operation must be confirmed by clicking OK. The second and more difficult to do is associate the PCB file extension to the corresponding software in the Windows Registry.
Is there one way to open unknown files?Many files contain only simple text data. It is possible that while opening unknown files (e.g. PCB) with a simple text editor like Windows Notepad will allow us to see some of the data encoded in the file. This method allows you to preview the contents of many files, but probably not in such a structure as a program dedicated to support them.
